Champion Parallel Kit for 1000-3500 Watt Inverter Generators
This newly designed kit is intended for the use with Champion inverters ONLY, ideally this kit should be used with at least one inverter being 2800W or larger (2800+), and(or) any other Champion inverter that uses the square paralink sockets. The total output of this kit will depend on the size of the inverters connected to it. The maximum output of the parallel kit is the total amperage of 58A across two sockets or the rated amperage of each socket up to 32A. This one model is designed for dual markets either UK or EU, it allows any Champion inverter models with wattages 1000-3500 to be connected up in parallel to create an increase in continuous power of up to 95% of the combined running watts. The control box construction is IP54 protected with 2 x 230V 32 amp 3 pin industrial water proof sockets & connection leads to allow easy tool free connection of any Champion inverter using the paralink socket. The BMS CL 12/100 monitors and protects each individual battery cell within the battery (or battery bank) and will disconnect the alternator, charge sources or DC loads in case of low battery voltage, high battery voltage or over temperature. The dedicated alternator input provides current limiting and one-way traffic from the alternator into the battery, this so any size alternator (and start battery) can be safely connected to the Smart Lithium battery or batteries. The BMS is also equipped with a remote on off connector, to turn the BMS (and the system) off via a remote switch, and a pre-alarm contact, to give a warning signal before the BMS will disconnect the batteries from the system. Features Battery Management system The BMS connects to 12,8V Victron LiFePO4 (LFP) batteries. Up to 5 batteries may be connected in parallel. Can be used as a system on/off switch. Alternator and battery protection The input current is electronically limited to approximately 90% of the fuse rating. A 100A fuse, for example, will therefore limit the input current to approximately 90A. Choosing the right fuse will: a. Protect the LFP battery against excessive charge current (important in case of a low capacity LFP battery). b. Protect the alternator against overload in case of a high capacity LFP battery bank (most 12V alternators will overheat and fail if running at maximum output during more than 5 minutes). Starter battery Protection This function is similar to that of a Cyrix Battery Combiner or Argo FET Battery Isolator. Current can flow to the LFP battery only if the input voltage (= voltage on the starter battery) exceeds 13V. And current cannot flow back from the LFP battery to the starter battery, thus preventing eventual damage to the LFP battery due to excessive discharge. Li-ion battery protection Excessive input voltage and transients are regulated down to a safe level. The Smart BMS CL will stop charging in case of cell over voltage or over temperature. It has three outputs, similar to the miniBMS Remote on/off input The remote on/off input controls the charging via the alternator. When off, charging via the alternator is disabled, while the BMS functionality will remain active allowing any loads and chargers to continue working regardless of the state of the remote input. When “system on/off switch” is enabled via VictronConnect, the BMS functionality will also be disabled. It consists of two terminals: Remote L and Remote H. Features Safety and prevention of galvanic corrosion The Isolation Transformer eliminates any electrical continuity between AC shore power and the boat. It is essential for safety and eliminates the need for galvanic isolators and polarity alarms. Safety is taken for granted in case of a normal on-shore installation. A fuse will blow or a GFCI (Ground Fault Current Interrupter) will trip in case of a short circuit or current leakage to ground. Connecting the ground wire of the shore-side supply to the metal parts of the boat will result in galvanic corrosion (see below). Bringing only the live and neutral wire on board results in an unsafe situation because GFCIs will not work nor will a fuse blow in case of a short circuit to a metal part on the boat. Galvanic corrosion occurs when two dissimilar metals in electrical contact are simultaneously exposed to an electrically conducting fluid. Seawater and, to a lesser extent, fresh water are such fluids. In general, the more active alloy of the couple corrodes preferentially while the less active (more noble) material is cathodically protected. The rate of galvanic corrosion is a function of several variables including area ratios, conductivity of the fluid, temperature, nature of the materials, etc. It is a misunderstanding that galvanic corrosion occurs only in metal and aluminium hulls. In fact it can occur on any boat as soon as a metallic part (the shaft and propeller) is in contact with water. Galvanic corrosion will quickly dissolve your sacrificial anodes, and attack the shaft, propeller and other metal parts in contact with water as soon as the boat is connected to the shore-side supply. It might therefore be tempting not to connect the ground conductor: this is however extremely dangerous because GFCIs will not work nor will a fuse blow in case of a short circuit to a metal part on the boat. The best solution to avoid galvanic corrosion and at the same time prevent any unsafe situation is to install an Isolation Transformer to connect to the shore-side supply. The Isolation Transformer eliminates any electrical continuity between shore power and the boat. The shore power is fed to the primary side of the transformer and the ship is connected to the secondary. The Isolation Transformer completely isolates the boat from the shore ground. By connecting all metal parts to the neutral output on the secondary side of the transformer, a GFCI will trip or a fuse will blow in case of a short circuit. Soft start is a standard feature of a Victron Energy isolation transformer. It will prevent the shore power fuse from blowing due to the inrush current of the transformer, which would otherwise occur. The Battery Balancer equalizes the state of charge of two series connected 12V batteries, or of several parallel strings of series connected batteries. When the charge voltage of a 24V battery system increases to more than 27V, the Battery Balancer will turn on and compare the voltage over the two series connected batteries. The Battery Balancer will draw a current of up to 1A from the battery (or parallel connected batteries) with the highest voltage. The resulting charge current differential will ensure that all batteries will converge to the same state of charge. If needed, several balancers can be paralleled.A 48V battery bank can be balanced with three Battery Balancers.
